bookfair

i had a slight obsession with the bookfairs in elementary school.

i was always OVER THE MOON to get a new Amelia Bedelia book!

we were walking through Barnes & Noble the other day when i saw one on the display and pointed it out to M.
notsojenny: aww, i always LOVED these!
M: what is it about?
nsj: it’s about Amelia, the maid, who’s always getting into trouble or some mad caper
M: hmm, so… this is what they teach young girls??

and he’s right.  i’m not all feminist but what was the moral of these books?  that you too can be an oofish bumbling maid?  i mean, c’mon, making a sponge cake out of sponges… okay, that was actually my favorite!

~ today i learned… the title character in these books was based on a Camaroon maid from the author’s, Peggy Parish’s, formative years. ~
