wedding day – the after party

Filed under: a wedding story — notsojenny @ 8:44 am

when the reception was all said and done, and it was time to get everyone out of there, time seemed to stand still.  my family stuck around and helped us load up their cars and ours with all the gifts, decorations, leftover candy/cupcakes, tons of booze and beer, etc.

our poor photographer and videographer were waiting around to catch us leaving… so we staged a mock-exit for them.  i realized we were going to be there for a while longer getting everything packed up so i said “let’s just fake this so they can get out of here.”  we hopped in the car and drove around the block.  easy peasey lemon squeezy.

as we loaded the last items into the car when we got back i overheard the caterer handing out tips to his crew.  except i heard something i didn’t like AT ALL.  we’d left a $50 tip for each worker, divided into envelopes for each type of job (ie. 2 bartenders, $100 enclosed, etc.) and i heard him saying “here are your tips, you each get $30”.  uh, WHAT?!?  i figured i’d give him the benefit of the doubt and assume maybe there was someone we didn’t account for so he evened it all out… but there wasn’t.  and as much as i disliked this guy before i hate him now.  and i still kick myself for not speaking up at the moment and saying “EXCUSE ME but we left FIFTY for EACH person!”  the bastard skimmed their tips.  obviously i’m still irked about this and would gladly give out the name of this caterer to anyone who wants to avoid a shitty shady person in the Richmond area.

the only other crap part was once we got back to the hotel we had to unload everything into our hotel room so that we didn’t risk anything disappearing while the cars were in valet overnight.  it was a freakin disaster.  then we hightailed it out of there to meet up with our friends at the local rooftop bar.  we closed down the bar with our friends and had a really nice evening.  it was a great way to wind down.

and then we made our way back to the hotel.

completely. exhausted.  barely with enough energy to wash my face and pull off all the false lashes before hopping into bed.  we could barely move our arms we were so drained of energy.

but the next morning we woke up, still tired, but with a day full of events ahead.  and touching my hair in the shower was gross… i thought i’d never have enough shampoo to get all that product out.  but we got cleaned up and, i dried my hair, put on my married name hoodie and we headed down the hallway to meet our loved ones for breakfast.

while we were waiting for the elevator i told my husband “you know, it doesn’t feel any different… it just feels BETTER.”

he said that he couldn’t have said it any better himself.

and with a kiss we were off on our married way.

  2. You know it’s weird, but two years later I still don’t feel married. But I do feel complete :) Glad to hear you had such a wonderful time :)
