settling dust

Filed under: a wedding story, the love boat — notsojenny @ 9:40 am

Thank You So Much to everyone for being happy for me.  it sounds so weird to say that but the blog world never ceases to amaze me.  i mean just the idea that people i’ve never met in person are excited for me and M is crazy… but it feels so good!  i love you all!!  (i know i’ve upped the cheese factor considerably here but what can i say, i’m overflowing with love lately : )

so after M asked me the big question the flood began.  who do i call first?  what’s the next step?  when will we get married?  all the questions that i’ve often thought about but i suddenly realized i never thought about answers to them.

so the first thing i did was call my mom.  she told me that she’d told my sister after M called her so i knew i had to call her too but in between i called S.  i’d decided that while both her and my sister would be my Maids of Honor i wanted to give her the option to be the only one if she really wanted.  because when it came down to it i knew that if i asked my sister to be the only MOH because of family politics that S would understand.  that’s why i decided she was truly the one i would make my MOH.  so i asked her.  then i asked her if she was okay with splitting the title and of course she was.  so then i called my sister.  of course after talking to her she asked if i was going to call S and i lied and told her i would call her next.  i hated lying to her but i felt it was necessary so as to avoid hurt feelings. (i found out today that the truth already came out when these two talked later but oh well… i guess my sister isn’t mad because she’s called me every single day : )

the next day we were headed up to see M’s family so we broke the news to them there.  they were genuinely excited and surprised which was so much fun to really experience in person.  so far everyone on my side i’d talked to over the phone and was either waiting by the phone or was still half asleep.  M’s mom appeared to be the most shocked… i just think she had thought her little boy would never get married at this point.  then when the boys were all playing outside i had a little talk with M’s mom and sister.  there were tears from all of us and it was just really nice.  i’m so lucky to be getting such a wonderful family of inlaws… i’m afraid that M got the crazy ones in this deal.

over the course of the days that followed i made a ton of calls, going through my phone and picking out the people that really mean the most to me to tell.  i sent a couple of facebook messages to a few people that i wanted to know but didn’t feel like calling.  one person i was just bitter with but still wanted to let her know.  i know that sounds awful and i can’t believe i facebook messaged people about something this big but whatever, i was burned out with phone calls and having the same conversation over and over.

so after i said YES we decided that the first thing to work out was the move.  how soon could we get me out of my apartment?  i have been trying to catch my landlords at home to have this discussion but to no avail so i left them a note with my December rent… i hope to have this worked out soon.  we’re planning on mid-January right now which is so quickly approaching!

so far here’s what you can expect in upcoming posts….

  • bridesmaids dresses (and other stuff i already bought : )
  • a final wedding gown decision
  • making a final ring setting decision
  • the flower talk
  • new names
  • each of our ideas for the ceremony/reception
  • pictures of all this stuff
  • finding the perfect wedding shoes
  • photography decisions
  • money woes
  • wasted paper & a new printer
  • and… oh so much more!  that’s everything that’s top of mind right now because it’s all been discussed in the past few days and i can’t wait to fill you all in!!

  3. I don’t know why I’m so very excited to read all of your wedding updates. Usually when friends of mine get engaged, or even when I read about semi-known bloggy people getting engaged, I get just the faintest taste of bitterness. Sometimes the sap just gets to the point where I skim over details. Something about you, though, is different … I want to know more in much the way that I can’t wait for the next installment of a reality show. Maybe it’s just that I’ve finally hit a season with characters I adore, where everything is marvelous and the selfish me is left outside : ) Bring it on! I seriously can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
