they finally got me

Filed under: absolutely fabulous — notsojenny @ 10:50 am

not sure if you remember but last week i went to macy*s in an attempt to use a $10 coupon i received, it was a good deal and i couldn’t pass it up.  so since i was a dumbass last week and they had to inform me that it wasn’t active until this week, i went back.  last night i was there looking for the same dress i bought last week.  the plan was to find it, save the $10, and then return the one i bought last week.  unfortunately that did not happen.

instead i browsed dresses while doing a little dance, a little i gotta peedance.  i figured i’d skim through them quickly and then run to the customer service bathrooms that were on the other floor on the opposite side of the store.  next thing i knew i was waltzing into the ladies room with an arm full of dresses to try on, still dancing a little.  halfway through trying on the dresses i actually thought i was going to pee my pants.  for some reason i am not very good at going to the restrooms whenever i need to go, i’m oddly stubborn about it and figure i’ll go when it’s convenient.  so anyway i ended up loving 2 of the dresses.  one i’d tried on earlier in the year when it first came out and even then i couldn’t justify buying it for $60 on sale.  this time it was marked 65% off the original… eh, still not entirely the price i want but i still love the dress.  then the other dress… oh the other dress.  it as brilliant.  but this was still $70 on sale.  even though i really still had to pee i continued to walk around the store floor with these two dresses trying to decide between them.  since i didn’t really need either one i couldn’t justify buying both.  then i found one of those price scanners, the first dress… not 65% off… just over 80% off!  that was all i needed.  somehow that justified both dresses.  so i headed to the register.

the nice lady checking me out was finally the first successful cashier i’d encountered at macy*s.  she did the impossible.  what many other associates have tried to get me to do all in vain.  i signed up for the credit card.  uggh, just typing it makes me cringe.  but what happened was i went to use the coupon only to find out that it’s only good until 1pm.  WTF?!  i thought it was all day tuesday and until 1pm on wednesday.  so anyway she told me that not only could i get 20% off my purchases that night and the following day (today) but that i could get 15% off cosmetics.  uh, repeter s’il vous plait.  a discount on cosmetics?  i couldn’t turn that down.  i gave in.  i mean i have faded to my winter complexion and need some foundation anyway so i figured why not save on it.  clinique is the bane of my existence but 15% off was just appetizing enough.

so now the plan is to not use the card again and just pay the bill off in full.  i needed the discount to justify the purchases so it served it’s purpose.  and macy*s is prone to only offering discounts to card holders so at least in the future i’ll get those bonuses too.  so in the last week i’ve bought 3 Maggy London dresses from macy*s and while i love that, especially the fact that i got 2 of them for UNDER $30 (so exciting!!), there’s a sad part.  what’s the sad part?  not one of them has pockets.  i love me some Maggy London but seriously?  she must be slacking.  i fell in love with her designs not only because they’re classic but because they often have pockets… in my opinion a dress with pockets is a girl’s best friend.

so anyway, i couldn’t find pictures of the other 2 but here’s the dress i got the cheapest… (and the best part is it’s still online for $148!)  i can’t wait to wear it… now if i just had somewhere to wear it…

ml-black-dress-all

and on the drive home i realized i still hadn’t gone to the bathroom.  i figured i was either going to pee my pants right there in the car or id’ get a UTI.  either way i got a good deal on dresses last night!  and really, that’s the most important thing.

  1. First, love, Love, LOVE the dress. I want it. Now.

Second, I don’t have a Macy’s card, but my mom does. Got to love the one day sales with the coupon and then Macy’s card holders get another 10 or 15% off. Really, if you only use it for stuff like that and then pay it in full as soon as you get the statement, it’s awesome!

  3. Is it sad to admit that I’ve done the whole “wait to pee” thing a lot? As in, a lot a lot? Because I have. I think of peeing as a massive inconvenience, somewhat like paying bills, that I can push off till the last possible second. I’ve definitely made impaired dressing room choices this way too, though it looks like you avoided that brilliantly! LOVE the dresses.

I have exactly one dress with pockets. I’m in love with it, and wear it far more than can be rationally justified. But, c’est la vie, or something like that …

  4. I wait to pee too. In fact, I have to pee right now.

  5. I can’t believe they got you on the card. So far I’m good, but only b/c I learned the secret of the Herald Square Macy’s–out of towners get 11% off. So, since I can’t bear to part w/my PA driver’s license, I just head to customer service, show them my I.D. and shop, discount in hand!

  7. Also, I don’t pee when I need to either. I put if off just because I can sometimes. It’s probably a bad thing..
