i wanted to use some quotes the other day so i pulled out my books. in high school i’d started writing quotes, poems, sayings, or anything i liked down into a spiral bound journal. i have two of these that are filled with stuff i like. when i was looking through one i found something i’d forgotten about… i’d made a list of characteristics for my future/ideal man. i started this somewhere near the end of high school and added items through the beginning of college. there are over 200 qualifications and it’s really funny to read them all because i can tell who i was dating, or had just gotten out of a relationship with, by some of the things i wrote.
i’m not going to put them all here, because you don’t really want to read them, but i’m going to pick out some of my favorites…
1. beautiful (preferably blue) eyes – i’d always dated guys with pretty blue eyes
2. within 3yrs of my age — haha… M is 9yrs older
9. will introduce me to his friends — i definitely dated guys that kept me secret
20. will understand what i want without me saying the words — basically i want a psychic, who doesn’t?
29. knows the constellations, or at least pretends too — i don’t really know what that was about, i guess i liked looking at the stars or something
40. loves the fall — i guess i’m pretty demanding
44. keeps me updated — still an important thing for me, i don’t like being in the dark
52. likes to kiss — always a good quality i guess. did i date someone who didn’t??
57. dresses nice – i’m also easy to please. everyone wants their man to look good!
61. hair under ear length — i don’t like being able to french braid my man’s hair
63. always carries chapstick — i’m surprised i didn’t specify a brand
64. let’s me win — because i’ma poor loser? ah yes, i remember dating many video game players
65. doesn’t make it too obvious — yes, i’m a poor loser
69. remembers as much as me — that’ll never happen
78. can’t over compliment — what was i thinking??
83. has a nice car — heehee
85. puts me in my place… gently — i guess i don’t always want to be the boss
95. will play with my hair — i do still enjoy this. i used to make one of my boyfriends brush my hair until i fell asleep (wow, i was a diva)
97. has cute friends — i think this was right around the time i was using them as back-up
100. can’t cook — if i stuck to that now, i’d starve
106. likes the city — i still feel that way
107. will go to musicals with me — i think this was when i got a boy to see Chicago on broadway with me… i’ve dragged M to opera’s only
110. won’t lie to me — i dated such wonderful guys *read littered with sarcasm*
112. takes care of me when i’m sick — M has done this since before we even started dating
118. can dance — i still only know one guy who can dance, and he’s single ladies!
122. is punctual — i used to be SO punctual, now i’m lazy and slothlike
133. smart — okay
138. likes to travel — again, this is still important to me today
140. always trying to impress me, no matter how long he’s had me — show me that plumage men
144. is always warm — haha, i do still need that. i always seem to be chilly
149. some slight accent — i think that was college when i had crushes on the british boys they brought over for soccer
157. has a job — man, i dated such losers!
170. will carry me — i think this was after my friend carried me through the streets of NYC because my dancing heels were killing me (he’s still one of my best friends!!)
171. understands my “accent” — S and i always call it our “accent”… it’s when we’re not really making sense to the human ear, but we know what we’re saying
182. smells good, with or without a shower — always a good quality to have
184. likes chocolate — i’m not sure why this came up, but it’s funny because M isn’t much of a sweets guy
187. let’s me drive his car — that nice car of course. this definitely came from dating guys with suped-up cars. some would let me race them, others would not.
192. not a drug addict — i think this was from watching S date one.. he wasn’t like a heroin head or something, just a pot head, but to me it’s all the same
196. wants to stay up all night with me — not as sexy as it sounds. i think this was from a first date that lasted 14hrs. no nookie involved.
200. doesn’t have siblings that are too close — gross… i dated a guy that was WAY too close with his sister, like in the episode of friends way… still gives me the creeps
209. kisses with his lips — i don’t know how but i have no idea what this even means
so that’s a sampling of my demands. it was nice to read because while some of them were silly things some of them were actually pretty important and resemble some of my guidelines rules. and it was funny to read because M is so far off from many of them.
~ today i learned… that i have to skip pilates tomorrow morning so i can get NKOTB tix! i’m that serious about it. yep, i’m driving up to CT to see a tuesday night show in september with my girls! ~
