but sadly the old wordpress is not : (
anyway, M and i went to DC this past weekend. it was good. if the weather had cooperated it would have been great. it was cloudy, low 50s, and drizzly the entire trip. so much for all those cute outfits i took the time to pack. every picture from every day is me bundled in my raincoat and scarf. it was not ideal for a trip to a city where you’re walking around alot. and i love taking pictures but didn’t take many on this trip since it was all kinda crappy out. but we still had a really good time. we got to see a couple of things around town, but not everything we’d hoped. we saw 3 of the smithsonian museums, but the history museum was closed. and one of the purposes of this visit was to go to the zoo. we’ve been saying we were going to go for about 2 years, so this was it, we finally had our chance.
i was very excited to see the elephants and hippos. they are, by far, my favorites. i was also hoping to see giraffes and maybe even a panda. M said that the pandas were dead, but i still don’t know if that’s true. all i know is they weren’t there. so once we saw that the pandas weren’t out i headed straight for the elephants. i was so excited!! i can’t remember the last time i saw one and what luck, the hippos are rightnext to the elephants! so i ran there beating out the other 8 year olds… only to see this:
EMPTY. every area seemed to be empty. no elephants. no hippos. no panda. they don’t even have a place for giraffes. they barely had any real zoo animals when we were there. i was very upset. especially since the park is rather large. and we walked the entire thing. only to be disappointed at each area. the ape house was fun and all, but as soon as we walked in there a class followed us. and it got too loud and obnoxious for me so we had to leave. it really ticked me off that we had to walk the entire circuit to find out that so many animals were not on display. at some areas we stood there for 10 minutes trying to figure out if there was anything in there only to realize there wasn’t. i don’t understand why they can’t tell you this. posting it at the entrance or the places you get your maps would make the most sense, but even just posting at each area “no animals in here today” would be helpful. i was pretty pissed by the time we left. i hadn’t seen anything interesting. there were sea lions but they weren’t doing anything and i can see wolves a few blocks away in the woods. i’d even seen many people walking around with a panda head lunch box that i decided i wanted to get for my nieces. we checked every little shop in the zoo, but i just couldn’t find them. i finally figured out that you had to get them at the concession stands but as soon as i got that, they closed. all in all, the zoo was a total bust. and if it wasn’t free i would have demanded my money back. i should have returned the $2 map to get my money back since it was just pictures of where stuff should have been.
it was odd because it was such a quick trip but when we came back we felt like we’d been away for weeks. but looking back at the trip, it flew by. i love being away. i really love being away with M. i like staying in hotels. i like being a tourist.
