watch it

Filed under: perfect strangers — notsojenny @ 10:47 am

you know on friends when joey meets a woman who doesn’t have a tv and he says “you don’t have a tv?  what does all your furniture point at?”   i get that.

as i’ve said before i was raised by tv.  therefore, even as an adult i feel an obligation to spend time with it.  so even when i’m not watching it, if i’m doing something i’ll have it on in the background.  but when it comes to prime-time tv i dedicate myself to paying attention.  the only catch is that there are so many shows that are on at the same time.  when it comes to prime time, i try to watch the same shows each week so i can keep up.  this is my current schedule…

8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30 10:00 10:30
Monday Bachelor How Do I Look? High School Confidential
Gossip Girl
Tuesday Biggest Loser Big Brother 9 Real Housewives NYC
        Bad Girls Club
Beauty & the Geek     Who’s Wedding is it Anyway
Wednesday Big Brother 9     High School Reunion
ANTM

Thursday         Lipstick Jungle

Friday     What Not to Wear
    Best Week Ever   The Soup

Saturday

Sunday Big Brother 9 Brizedillas Army Wives
Rich Bride Poor Bride John Adams

(yes, it’s color coded by channel) (and since last week… john adams got added to the list) but you see my problem.  there are some shows that are on at the same time so i can’t possibly watch them all.  luckily some of these are on as repeats throughout the week.  but this doesn’t even have some of the shows i watch listed that will be returning soon… i’m talking about you Big Love & Tell Me You Love Me.  so anyway, this is why i want a tivo.  i’ve wanted one for some time, but just can’t seem to let myself add that cost into my monthlies.

admittedly i’ve become a huge reality tv watcher.  that’s apparent in the schedule above.  it’s not that i don’t like written shows, it’s just that there don’t seem to be many good ones on tv anymore.  i think these are the funniest shows ever on tv…

Arrested Development – if you have never seen this show, please do whatever you have to to remedy that.  if you like subtle, read between the lines humor, and appreciate jokes that refer to other episodes, you’ll like this show.  it’s freakin hilarious.

Golden Girls – watch it today, you’ll see what brilliant writing it was.  c’mon girls, admit that you wanted to be blanche devereaux.  i still hope i will be some day.  and who doesn’t think of this show every time they hear the word ‘lanai’.

The Office (BBC version) – this show is freakin hysterical.  i realize that not everyone gets or appreciates british humor, but i love it.  and this show, along with Coupling, are the perfect example of why (oh yah, and if you like it and haven’t seen Hot Fuzz, go rent it… NOW!)

The Office (US version) – it took me a while to be able to watch this.  it’s so completely different from the BBC writing.  i didn’t like it at first because it’s the same characters and set up, but the jokes were off.  i’ve come to realize it’s terribly funny in it’s own right and i truly enjoy it now.

Gilmore Girls – M says it’s written for teenage girls.  i don’t care.  i really love the witty banter.

Family Guy – watching this show down here i’ve realize that alot of the humor is regional, and if you’re not familiar with RI then some of the subtleties may slip by you, but it’s still “freakin hilarious!”

am i missing any?  what shows crack you up??
